DESCRIPTION: Causard, a Paris, stunning 3 piece blue cobalt porcelain and gilt bronze lyre form clock with candle stands. The case replete with ornaments in the classical taste, the top with mask of Helios above floral festoon, the pendulum composed of a ring of brilliants with gridiron style rod, and with knife edge suspension above the movement canister and oscillating in full view, gilt bezel with convex beveled glass, Arabic numeral white enamel dial with floral garlands, signed "Causard Hger Du Roy A Paris", gilt lyre form hands, 8 days, time and strike, pendule a Paris movement, signed S. Marti, the candelabras also in cobalt glaze, set with brilliants, and with gilt classical ornament, the candle arms with rose leaves and buds, the sockets of open rose form, c1890
CONDITION: Clock case dirty, and with glued break at top of base, back - the damage cannot be seen from the front, it does not affect the structural integrity of the case, dial with minor flake and hairline at dial edge, 1:30, signature with minor losses, hands very good, movement ticks and strikes, pendulum will need adjustment candelabra dirty and with residual wax, but are without damage, one with a few slightly loose elements, can be secured by tightening the fasteners, a very striking set of high quality, Ht 19 1/2" See Sotheby's Hong Kong January 2014 and Sheffield Auction Gallery Sheffield, England January 2011 for recent sales of identical sets.
